This is such a great combination of products for anyone who loves color, randomness and creating your own backgrounds papers.
The videos I have watched on the Gelli Plate brayer color across the plate use a stencil, found objects or draw into it to create a design/pattern and than take a print and continue to layer further colors and designs onto this initial print. I wanted to experiment more with color and the Splash Ink Acrylic Mixing Colors to see what results I could achieve in minimal layers today.
Splash Inks are four colors that you mix together in various quantities to achieve at least one hundred other color variations. They are a concentrated color in liquid form, which comes in a bottle with a dropper lid making them easy to use, and it minimizes your outlay as you only need four colors.
One thing I noted was that because the Splash Inks are in a liquid form in comparison to normal Acrylic Paint, you got interesting effects when applied sparingly from what I will call the evaporation effect for want of a better word. For all of the below prints, I have simply applied drops of the four colors to the plate randomly and brayer over the plate unless otherwise specified..
Lots of Yellow with a touch of the other colors, lightly brayered and then pounced with a baby wipe. Print 1 and then apply Colors Yellow, Blue and Magenta applied across the plate and then combed with a Tsukineko Squeegee. Print taken for above result.
Drops of Magenta and Yellow applied across the top of one side and brayed rolled across the plate one, turned and rolled brayer across the plate in other direction to give striped effect. Print 1 and then apply blue randomly in corners brayered and then stamp in some places with French Script Stamp. Print taken for Above Result.
Both of the above were taken using the equivalent to an ink blotter/acrylic smash technique with a piece of acetate. Apply drops of Splash Ink Randomly on Plate and then apply over this a piece of acetate. Using Brayer move the color around till you are happy with the mix results. Then Print.
The right hand side print also had paper flowers pressed into it before printing which removed the ink from these areas given the white effect.
