Colours and Colouring - What's New Part 1

I'm excited!  I have lots of new things to share with you this week.

A NEW COLOUR COMBINATION TO PLAY WITH

This is such a pretty colour combination, I didn't have much in the way of patterned papers featuring just these colours without lots of other bright colours being on them so I chose to go for texture using a embossing folder, paper doilleys and some paper flowers from my stash.  The sentiment is from Stampin' Up and I have layered this onto ovals using my Small Oval and Scalloped Oval Punches also from Stampin' Up!.

Sadly its the last week of Summer Card Camp - I have just loved the different tips and tricks shared during camp by the wonderful designers and I know have over 24 new colour combinations to refer to for inspiration for future projects.  I am so pleased I joined in the fun.  Hopefully before the week is out I will share some more fabulous colour combo creations.

NEW PENS & STAMPS TO PLAY WITH

This week I also made a exciting new purchase.  As you know I have been working with lots of digitial images lately so I have been on the search for the perfect marker to colour in my creations but hadn't found one that was firstly affordable and that appealed to me in regards to ease of use and blendability.  On Tuesday my good friend Julie from Time to Create had a product launch to introduce a range of markers she thought were fabulous which she had recently discovered at a Craft Fair and was now retailing.  Upon seeing her beautiful creations using them and in person being demonstrated I knew straight away these were the pens for me.  I just had to have them.  I purchased Starter Kit One which has perfect colours for skin tones and to get you started.  It also includes a pen that allows you to take colour away.  This pen increases the tonal variations and highlights you can create.  You may need to zoom in on the the image panel below to see the variation in colour around the edges etc I find it totally amazing that I only had to use three pens to get such variation.

The pens are Pantone Tria Markers from Letraset.  They are alcohol based markers that have three different nib sizes from a fine point to chisel.  What I love about them is you only need one pen to colour tone on tone variation or to highlight and they blend beautifully.  By experiementing yesterday I found that they work perfectly on a number of different papers, but if you are unsure and want to play it safe you can buy specfic blending paper for your projects. 

Here is a card I made colouring direct on Stampin' Up Whisper White Cardstock.  This gorgeous Image is one of my new Stamps from Crafty Individuals which I had, had put aside at Time to Create. I am now the proud owner of 5 of thier wonderful stamps  This one is ATC Size so its perfect for Card Makers and ATC Artists alike.  I have simply layered the image a few times onto different papers and added a bit of bling from my stash.

I must warn you that playing with the Tria Markers is addictive, so much so that I am now in a rush to get some cards made to take to the shop tommorrow because I played and experiemented my day away yesterday.  So if you are looking at investing in some fabulous Markers for all your colouring/crafting needs be sure to check out Pantone Tria Markers by Letraset, you will be so glad you did.

Summer Card Camp Week 3

My husband Rod has been home this week with one of the dreaded viruses going around, and I have found myself feeling a little flat and unmotivated this week too, so I only have one card to share so far for Week 3 of Summer Card Camp. 

This week  introduced us to a new colour combination of tones of brown with red and white as well as a new technique - Fingerinking.  Here is a card I have created using this fun (messy too) technique and this weeks colours which was inspired by the card shared with us by Jennifer McGuire on the Technique Video.

Stamps:  Stampin' Up! Just Believe and Tiny Tags

Cardstock/Paper:  Stampin' Up Watercolor Paper, Soft Suede, Choc Chip, Kraft and Gloss White

Counting the Days - Another Summer Camp Card

Just a quick post to share with you another card I made using the Summer Card Camp Week 2 Colour Combination.

'Counting the Days' and 'Until I see You' are fabulous Sentiments from the June Unity Kit of the Month and can you see where else I have stamped?

I did a quick stamped paper design using the featured colours by brayering the background and using my Dark Room Door Leave stamps in the different colours.  From this I then punched out some scallop circles and layered these with some of my Peach Parfait Cardstock and added a button to create my rosette.  I then also cut out some leaves from this same design piece.  Two pieces of patterned paper, a scallop border edge and there you have it - a quick summery, bright and cheery card.

Summer Card Camp Week 2

Today is the first chance I have had to make some cards using this weeks colour combination.  Again these are colours I wouldn't normally reach for to use together so I am having great fun leaving my comfort zone and being inspired by the many fabulous examples from our teachers and guest designers as well as all the other participants who upload their creations to the student gallery.

When these colours were first introduced by our Camp Hostess she mentioned that these colours reminded her of things such as Watermelon and Margarita's.  This is one girl who takes after my own heart and when I heard watermelon I just knew I was going to use the watermelon stamp from the Unity June Kit of the Month which had only arrived late last week.  The sentiment is also from the same kit.

Ink:  Black Archival Ink and SU Stampin' Write Markers Garden Green, Real Red and Peach Parfait,

Ink Pads Peach Parfait and So Saffron, and Reinkers Green Galore.

Other:  Coloured Twine, SU Buttons and SU Scallop Border Punch

To create my image panel, I firstly stamped the watermelons in Black Archival Ink onto gloss card.  I also at this time stamped a few extras on normal white card to create a mask.  I covered my stamped watermelons with the mask and then mixed a bit of one of my SU Green Reinker's with some alcohol blending solution and sponged, dabbed across the gloss card.  Once dry I then proceeded to colour in my watermelons using Garden Green, Real Red and Peach Parfait SU Markers.  I stamped my sentiment onto white cardstock which I then sponged with a combination of Peach Parfait and So Saffron Ink and then very messily added some faux stitching to the edges of my scalloped sentiment panel. 

I thought the teaming of these colours with black really made them pop and I am now definitely inspired to play with these colours some more.  I will hopefully be back to post a couple of these cards in the next few days.

Summer Card Camp Week 1

Earlier this week I signed up to attend Summer Card Camp.  The focus of this 4 week camp is on colour and it is being taught by Jennifer McGuire & Kristina Werner with 24 other Guest Designers also dropping by to share their creations and card making tips.

I wouldn't have thought of using all these five colours together in a Million years, so to get used to the idea I started with simply combining cardstock and ink to play with this combination.

Here are some of the cards I have created.

  

Stamps:  Unity June KOTM

Ink:  Stampin' Up  Rich Razzleberry, Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo,

Whisper White & Basic Black (Ink Pad & Markers)

Other:  Clear Embossing Powder, Grosgrain Ribbon

For this card the Number Panel was stamped in black, clear embossed and then the colours sponged over to colour in the numbers. The cupcake stamp was using the direct to rubber technique with my SU Markers and then stamped. I then coloured in the cupcake wrapper. The sentiment was simply stamped.

Other:  Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder, Martha Stewart Scallop Wave Punch, Purple MT Tape

The image was done with my markers using the direct to rubber technique to allow all four colours to be stamped at once.  I then sponged the blue over the top.  At the top I have added the scalloped wave with stitching and MT Tape.  The bottom I have layered the pink with a white strip which has been embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder.

Ink: Stampin' Up, Cardstock: Stampin' Up

Other: Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder, Martha Stewart Scallop Wave Punch,

SU Small, Large,  and Scallop Oval and Itty Bitty Flower Punches and Rhinestone.

For my third card using the left over embossed panel from the second card I have simply sponged the colours over the design, added a scalloped wave piece and layered my sentiment.

This weekend I will be breaking out the patterned paper and trying some of the sketches and designs shown throughout the week with these colours. 

These bright summer colours just might be the answer to keeping the winter blues away......who knows.
