PTT#67 - Mum's the Word

With Mother's Day just around the corner, Mum is the Word so we want to see you create a special  Card for Mum this week at Party Time Tuesdays.

I kept my card quiet simple, as I really loved this sweet image and had planned to team it with some more of the wonderful She Art Papers, my Mum's favorite colour is green, so this is the colour I chose to work with.  My Tria Markers were put to good use once again as were some of my Dew Drops.  These items along with the She Art Papers have been getting a work out on my cards of late.

A Flower Pot Card

This month at the Scrap Lounge the theme is Flowers - very fitting for Mother's Day, so I decided as one of my projects to make a Mother's Day Flower Pot Card.

Cardstock/Paper:  Stampin' Up! Basic Grey, Ink:  Stampin' Up!

Other:  Sizzix Layered Flower #3 Die,Stampin' Up! Eyelet Border Punch and 2 Step XL Large Bird Punch,

 Ribbon, Rhinestones, Kindy Glitz

Party Time Tuesdays Challenge #14 - Mothers Day

As part of the PTT Design Team this week we got to play with SUPER MOM a fabulous image from this weeks, in fact this whole month's Sponsor KENNY K.

We were challenged to design a funky mothers day card which wasn't all about hearts and flowers. 

Here is the card I came up with.  Remember my last post mentioned I was having one of those days making a card, well this was the card I was struggling with.  I wasn't sure why?  Maybe it was just everything from spending the last few weeks moving Mum and Dad and then us to our new house taking its toll.  I still don't know if I am happy with the end result.

Have you ever had one of those days!

Yesterday I had one of those days where I needed to make a card, but no matter what I had in mind or tried, I was just not happy with the end result.  I cut up various bits of patterned paper, embossed them, shaped them and teamed them together swapped them about but just wasn't happy with the anything I came up with.

The card I am posting here is not that card I was trying to create yesterday but a card I created today using up the bits I tried to incorporate on the one yesterday.  I created this card today for the second TUIC Challenge this month.  Which was to create a card inspired by April Showers brings May Flowers which is being hosted by Heather on her blog Stamping Mommy.

May and Flowers brought Mother's Day to mind and knowing my mother prefers the Earthy Tones of Autumn which it is here in Australia and that she loves Green, my throwouts from yesterdays card were perfect for this challenge.

Pretty in Pink - Two Cards from last week.

I've just arrived home from Brisbane late this afternoon where I have been since Thursday helping my mother and father pack up their home for the last 27 years to move down here to Casino to live.  So I thought today I would do a quick post to show that it hasn't been all housework and packing for me of late.  I still found some time to create.  And it was nice to spend some time to create something that wasn't for one of my Design Team Committments or challenges I am participating in.  Here is two cards I made last week.

The first card is using some of my leftover retired SU Papers from the Sweet Always and Candy Lane DSP.  The Sentiment is from Occasional Greetings and the Flower randomly stamped on my spellbinder cut circle from Sweet Summer (SAB) Stamp Set both from Stampin' Up!.  The Tie Dyed Flower is from Petaloo. 



This second card gives the appearance of inlaid embossing for the background, however I have simply stamped and coloured my image onto the cardstock and then embossed it.  I than sponged over the embossed panel with Old Olive Ink. 

The Dragon Fly is from the Natures Nest Stamp Set, the Sentiment from On Your Birthday and the flower on the background panel from the Sweet Summer (SAB) Stamp Set all from Stampin' Up! 

Faux Mother of Pearl for Mothers Day

Below is a card I have made using the faux mother of pearl technique for Mothers Day.  It also is made using the new In Colour Rich Razzleberry......which I love (I think I have told you this before).  I had to scan the card to get a reasonable photo as trying to take it with the camera I kept getting to much shine coming off the pearlescent shimmer.

This technique is quite simple it uses a white pearlescent based acrylic paint to create a resist and give the mother of pearl appearance.  Than with some simple sponging of a light pink toned ink and a little bit of rubbing off you are left with the beautiful shimmer effect of mother of pearl.

This is a great subtle way to add a bit of glitz to a card without going overboard.  It works great for Sympathy cards as well as does this Stamp Set Fifth Avenue Floral.
