A Smashing way to start the NEW Year

Happy New Year everyone!  I am so excited to be at the start of a new year which I know for me is going to be big.  That's right it is the first day of 2011, which marks the start of my term on the Creative Team over at the Scrap Lounge!

Every Month on the Scrap Lounge they host a number of different challenges for you to participate in with some great prizes to be won from their sponsors.  I have found it to be such a great place to hang out.

The technique challenge this month was to create a layout using Acrylic Paint as an Embellishment, so I wanted to share with you today a card doing just that.  The Paint was supplied by this Month's Sponsor Stick N Giggle and the three colours I received were Making Memories Lilac, Mango and Speciality Glaze Sea Foam.

Cardstock/Papers:  Stampin' Up!, Stamps:  Because I Care (Hostess Set) Stampin' Up!
Ink:  Black Staz On,   Other: Making Memories Paints, Acetate, Clear Rhinestones

The technique I have used for my card today is one variation of the Acrylic Smash Technique, which takes me back to my childhood.  Its squiching different colours (like a paint blot effect) between two pieces of acetate, you than seperate them, let them dry and finish by stamping your image with Staz On onto the front of the acetate and using this on your layout.

This is a close up of the Acrylic Smash on Acetate with the Image Stamped over the Top with Staz On Ink

Because the Seafoam Speciality Glaze had a bit of shimmer I added a touch of this over the front of the leaf on my card to define it more.  I also added a couple of individual petals over the main flower image to give it more dimension.

I really loved these colours together and because I smashed out a whole piece of acetate I have a couple more cards using this technique to share with you over the next few posts.

Hoping you find lots of time to Create in 2011.

This is a beautiful card, Danielle.I love the idea of squiching and smashing. Sounds like an art version of thumping and bashing. Oh the desire is so strong! LOL!

Yesterday I enjoyed looking at the real flowers at my mum's place. She so loved those hydrangeas out the front.
