This technique is classed as Serendipity - as the end result is somewhat of a surprise and you will never get any two pieces identical. Its all about random placement of all mediums/media that you use.
So I will start by showing you my finished cards which are using my new favorite Collage Sheet Ivory Angels - AP 2090, and the Even More Christmas Images Collage Sheet - AP1027, both available from Altered Pages.
Now for a bit of a run down on this technique which works the same on Canvas as it does Paper
SERENDIPITY BACKGROUND TECHNIQUE
1. You start by using torn bits of paper and using Gel Medium or Glue apply them to your canvas or blank piece of paper, you can leave spaces between the pieces.
This photo is of a Canvas I used this background Technique on. |
2. You then start to randomly add color be it paint, ink, gesso, you can brush it on, stencil it on etc. Making sure you allowing the patterns and colors of the papers to still show as this is what gives it interest and dimension.
This photo shows three colors of paint added to the Canvas by brushing on with a Sponge Brush |
This photo shows gesso and paint added with a piece of bubble wrap |
3. For further interest you can then stamp, emboss, and embellish with glitter, pearl pens etc.
This piece I have stamped and embossed Snowflakes in Black and White |
This piece I haven't added any further to it. |
So remembering this technique is Serendipity and totally random you can really add anything you want to it. The color and paper choices are entirely up to you and obviously to some degree will be driven by your main image/project elements or your main image and project elements will be driven by the background which was a bit of the case in my cards today.
