Giving Vellum a Second Chance!

I have never been fond of vellum, its one of the those crafting items you either love or hate.  My Gelatos on the other hand I do love, so when I saw over on the Design Memory Craft Blog a technique using Gelatos with Vellum, my interest was peaked.

The technique involved stamping and embossing your image onto vellum and then coloring the vellum from both the front and back with your Faber Castell Gelatos and highlighting on the front with Big Brush Stamper Pens.

So I got out a stamp I hadn't inked up yet from my Almond Blossom Fairy Set by Crafter's Companion and followed the steps of the video tutorial.

Before too long I had a beautifully colored fairy longing for a new home.

She found it with a background I had created earlier in the week and didn't use for the purpose intended.

I had been mucking around with my alcohol inks (Cranberry and Eggplant) and Dylusions stamps and created this emboss resist background on gloss card.  You can't see it that well in the photo but I used Kaliedscope Transparent Embossing Powder which is  a clear powder with a gorgeous glitter.  I thought it was the perfect touch of magic for this sweet fairy.

I really love how this new coloring technique worked for this card, and it has perhaps changed my mind a little about using vellum.  I will have to play some more and see.

I am entering this card into the following challenges

Card Mania - #21 Spots and Stripes Challenge
The Cheerful Stamp Pad - #61 My Kind of Gal

Well Danie it was worth the wait for this sweet fairy to get inked. Your piece is fantastic. As you know I really like vellum BUT you have to play with it which you have don - beautifully.
Totally delightful.

I'm with you. I used vellum often when first starting out, but after smudges and smears, I've abandoned it for years. Your success makes me think I should try it again. Thank you for joining us at Get Inky! Challenge. Julie O, DT member
