Popping Pastels and Playing Pretty

Today I decided to revisit a rather old technique from my Stampin' Up! Days - Popping Pastels and play along with a couple of challenges (see list of challenges at the bottom of this post).

I chose a floral stamp from a new clear set I had recently received from Alacraft which is a new online Craft Store here in Australia.  They have a great range of ribbons, trims and lace as well as scrapbooking and general craft items.

  

Having chosen a floral image my immediate thoughts turned to my favorite color combo of pink and green and evolved from there.

POPPING PASTELS TUTORIAL

For the popping pastels technique, you start with your chosen image and Versamark Clear Ink Pad along with the cardstock you wish to stamp the image onto.

Ink up the stamp with the Versamark Ink and stamp onto your chosen piece of cardstock.

Once stamped I allow the image a few seconds to dry and then get out my Pastels/Chalks using a Green for the leaves of my design and Pink for the flowers.

 I take up one color on my finger and gently rub this across the stamped image

I continue until I have revealed all my image and then I polish off the excess with a dry cloth.  You can blend your chosen colors to fill in the entire piece of cardstock if desired.

Then I chose some coordinating pieces to make and finish my card.  

I chose a pretty floral paper which added some yellow to the mix, and some Rich Razzleberry and Olive Green Cardstock all of which were scraps from my ever growing crafting stash.  Because my chosen paper had yellow in the design, I went back to my image and added a touch of yellow around the edges with my pastels.

From the Olive Cardstock I punched out a circle and stamped my sentiment which is from the same stamp set as my image.

To further embellish my design I also choose some rose ribbon trim and flower bling also from Alacraft.

It was then just a matter of layering everything together.  I added the pretty floral trim down one side of my chosen paper, and then mounted this onto a Rich Razzleberry Card Base.

I attached my image to the circle so that only half the circle (the half with the sentiment) remained visible.  I then layered this over a cut rectangle of Rich Razzleberry Cardstock which is slightly larger than my image so that it frame its.  I then attach this to the opposite side of my card base.

To finish I then added a little kindy glitz to my three flowers on my popping pastel design and finished by adding four flower diamantes to this design.
