This month's challenge over at Altered Pages is all about the Chinese New Year (Feb 4). 2014 is the year of the Horse, so I decided to use the wonderful Collage Background and Chinese New Year Collage Sheets from Altered Pages to alter a wood block.
I printed the Oriental Background collage sheet twice to get the same background for both the front and back panel and enough of my second design to cover the sides. The Year of the Horse Collage Sheet provided my main images and text.
Cherry Blossoms are such a widely used element for oriental designs so for extra texture and dimension I decided to use one of my dies to cut some more out in red, pink and brown cardstock and adhere them to the block.
I also added some decorative red border strips (Bazzill Half the Edge Cardstock Strips) and some gold leafing to the edges to finish. Apart from the Cherry Blossom Die Cuts, everything used to alter this block is available from Altered Pages.
The rest of the design team have made some wonderful projects to inspire you from cards to lanterns so be sure to pop over and check them out.
