More Gelli, Gingerbread and some Candy Canes Too

May your Christmas be full of Sweet Surprises is the inside sentiment for my card today using some more of my Gelli Prints I created earlier in the week.

The Gelli Print Background done on Watercolor Paper used a mix of 12 x 12 stencils from the Crafters Workshop, Triangle Plaid, Honeycomb and Switchback with acrylic paint colors, yellow ochre, deep red and green.

I have then added a mix of stamping in black including some words and a gingerbread man and some chipboard candy canes which I die cut some time ago and had on hand ready to paint and color.

Once more this week I am linking up with the '12 Days of Christmas' Party over at Unruly PaperArts.

Cards in Envy - Anything Goes

Anything Goes is the theme over at Cards in Envy Challenges this fortnight as long as your card is a A2 (4.5" x 5.5") in size.  My card is definitely a mixed media project and a mix of leftovers this fortnight.

I had a few left over bits and pieces from other projects lying around on my desk so I brought them all together with a Gelato Water Color Stamped Background (Chevron like Design) and the main Beauty in All Things stamp (both from Unity) to create my card.

My background was done on a white piece of cardstock and I simply colored the stamp with various colors of my Gelatos from Faber Castel/Design Memory Craft, spritzed with a little water and stamped.  I also stamped the Beauty in All Things stamp on white card with black archival ink and then used my Gelatos and my waterbrush to color in the background and the flowers.

My butterfly was a left over collage image from Altered Pages, my die cut flowers were cut using up the last pieces of some papers I made using paper towel I had been sopping up my art inks and paints with (see my last project).  The punched flower border strips were cut from Robin's Nest Aquamarine Sorbet Glittler Papers, the purple ribbon loop border was punched from another Robin's Nest Paper - Distressed Plum to coordinate with my flowers and colors in the background.  I used a Dew Drop (also from the Robin's Nest) as the flower center for my larger die cut flower.  My leaves were hand cut and die cut using other paper scraps I had on my desk.

Be sure to pop over to the Cards in Envy Blog for more great inspiration and I hope to see you playing along.

Cards in Envy - For the Birds

Hi Everyone, we are flying into Monday with a new challenge at Cards in Envy today and it really is for the Birds. We simply want to see a bird somewhere on your card.

For my card today I put my Big Shot to good use, firstly I took one of my handmade (sop up the excess mist) backgrounds and cut out my bird with my Sizzix Die.  Then taking a yellow Gelato I filled in any white space left on the bird and added a rhinestone for his eye.  Two different embossed patterns a rounded corner and a piece of twine framed him perfectly and I have then layered this onto a white card base and stamped a Unity Sentiment to finish.

Just wait to you see all the other fabulous winged inspiration from the Design Team, why not fly on over now and take a peek and if you have time we'd love it if you played along too!

Time to Play!

I had a few minutes home alone before heading to the dentist today, so decided to play along with a couple of challenges and make a quick card.

I liked the look of the sketch at I heart Sketches and decided to use the color inspiration from the Black with Two Challenge Blog.

The die cut rose and leaves, the white oval and the scrap of green paper were already on my desk as they were left overs from a previous project.  Also on my desk already was my corner rounder punch, my scallop border punch and the rhinestones.  So it all fell together quite easily for a change.

Stamp:  Unity Stamp Co KOTM
Paper:  Stampin' Up and Bo Bunny
Other:  Rhinestones, Olive Ribbon, Flower and Leaf Dies, Watercolor Pencils, Scallop Border Punch, Round Corner Punch

Other Challenges:
Addicted to Stamps - #52 Make Your Mark where I have chosen to use my Water Color Pencils to add color to this stamped image.

Gelli Prints and Fun Foam Fun!

Hi Everyone!  My post today is what I have done for my Altered Pages DT post this week.

After recently attending a Stamp Carving Class at my LSS, Time to Create, I was reminded and reintroduced to the versatility of Fun Foam, which you can buy at your local $ (dollar) Store in an assortment of shapes and sizes.  At this class we carved our own stamp designs.

These two shell like ones were some of my designs from that day.  Anyway whilst carving these stamps I was thinking how great it would be to use them with my Gelli Plate.

The first of the above prints I have added some yellow (Gelato) to highlight the design, whilst the second was  a ghost layer of the first print layered over another print.

So this week I decided to break out the fun foam and play some more.

I used my Sizzix Border Strip Die to cut some shapes, some of which I then etched a pattern into.

By pressing these shapes into a layer of paint applied to the plate, it removes the paint revealing the design.

You can do this and then apply a different color over the top to give this type of result.

You can lay the shapes over the plate in any way you choose.  Using different colors for the second layer can give different looks - for instance this one has the pattern more subdued.

The best part about using the Gelli Plate is that there is always an element of surprise with the end result.

And I so love the results achieved layering the ghost prints (second/third generation prints) one on top of the other.  To achieve fabulous textured backgrounds with great depth.

And to finish my post today - here is another way to use up your prints which you are going to have plenty of since playing with this plate is highly addictive.

I have layered cut squares of this print like a patchwork and used some fun foam die cut shapes to embellish.

If you'd like to try this technique, you can purchase your own Gelli Plate and Acrylic Paint to get you started at Altered Pages.

Cards in Envy - Paper Strips instead of Ribbon

Hi Everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and St. Patricks Day!  I went to the cinema with the boys to see Oz the Great and Powerful so it was kinda fitting given its a story about a Green City.....lol.

Anyway today starts another Cards in Envy Challenge and this week we want to see you use strips of paper instead of ribbon. Be sure to pop over to the blog to see all the wonderful inspiration from the Design Team.

My take on this is quite simple, I have taken a strip of paper and a marker in the same color to add some definition to the strip to resemble a grosgrain ribbon.  We are heading into Autumn here, so I had a bit of play with some seasonal colors for this one.  The stamps I have used are a combination of Unity Stamp Co and Stampin' Up!

Thanks for popping by and I do hope to be admiring your take on this challenge this fortnight!

Thinking Lavender at Altered Pages this month

Hi Everyone!  Yes it's that time again for another fabulous Altered Art Challenge over at Altered Pages.

This month with spring in the air for most of the Northern Hemisphere we are wanting you to turn your thoughts to this magical season and in particular the color of Lavender.

My project which is a framed ATC wall hanging was inspired by a recent post I saw over on the Unruly Paper Arts Blog by Petra Berendsen.

In creating this I was also on a mission to use up my left over scraps which include the paper used for the frame, my multicolored chalk stamped background which was left over from some previous ATC's as was the collage sentiment.  I have also used the Wildflowers Volume 1 Stamp Set by Dark Room Door, Pearl Dew Drops and Pink Tear Drops from The Robin's Nest, die cut butterflies, and a punch for the leaves.  My frame was cut from a piece of chipboard using my Courture Creations Victorian Rectangle Cutting Die.

The Altered Pages Supplies Used include an ATC Sized Eco Art Board, Foiling, some Pink Silk Ribbon
and a Lavender Fabric Flower.

Be sure to pop over to the Altered Pages Challenge Site to play along as well as to see the rest of the Design Teams creations for March's Challenge.  They are all so unique and include an Altered Art Block, Tags, and an Easter Egg showcasing this beautiful shade of purple.

I am also entering this project into the following challenges:-

Crafty Network Bloggers - March Spring/Pastels Challenge
Tuesday Alchemy - #52 Anything Goes
Celebrate the Occassion - #103 Spring is in the Air

Keeping Close the One You Love!

Hi Everyone, well its that time of the month again for another Altered Art Challenge over at Altered Pages and this month the theme is Red Heart - Golden Festival in honor of both Valentines Day and Chinese New Year.  We were asked and are asking you to join in the fun by creating something incorporating the colors Red and Gold and perhaps something specific for Valentines Day or the Chinese New Year.

I have had some wooden spools from Altered Pages sitting in my stash for a few months now and was wanting to use them so I came up with an idea of a Love Inspired Photo/Card Holder.

Which I thought would be perfect for keeping your loves ones close (well at least the thought of them).

This is a photo of my hubby and Marvin the Martian taken at a trip to Movie World on the Gold Coast almost twenty years ago.  It always makes me smile when I see it.

Mounted behind the heart is a small clip and I have used a chipboard scroll corner to act as an easel like back to assist in holding the photo up.

Altered Pages Supplies Used:-
Wooden Spool
Glitz French Kiss Paper
Chipboard Scroll Corner

I forgot to take a shot from another angle, but other than my cupid, I have some red tissue paper and gold glittered hearts.  My spool is covered by a piece of French Kiss Paper from Glitz and I have achieved the gold effect by simply buffing some Metallic Gold Gelato from Faber Castell across the spool and my other elements.  This has given it a wonderful aged effect.  A touch of Red Kindy Glitz was also added.

Challenges I am entering this into are:-

Anything But a Card - #12 Share the Love
UK Pan Pastels - #6 Love and Romance
Design Memory Craft - February Take the Challenge with Mou - Recreate Nostalgia. (Vintage Look Project that can hold old photos)

Thanks for stopping by today!

Believe Canvas

Hi Everyone!  Today I have a project to share with you all for The Robin's Nest Design Team.  I have really enjoyed my first term with this team so I am trying out to do it all over again with my creation today.

Do you believe in the Magic of Christmas?  Well I certainly do, its my most favorite time of the year, as we get to catch up with family and friends and enjoy the spirit of the season and reflect on the year that was and dream for the year ahead.  This year will prove to be even more special as we share it with our new Foster Child.  He has already in the few short weeks we have known him brought so much joy and laughter into our home.

Every Christmas I love to create a few pieces to decorate our home and I have made a Cute Canvas for today's post.

My canvas is 13 x 18 cm in size and I started by coloring the sides of the canvas black with a Faber Castell Gelato Pen.  I then took piece of the Robin's Nest Glittered Black and White Paisley Cardstock which cut just smaller than the dimensions of the canvas and colored in the design with my Red & Green Stamper's Big Brush Pens also from Faber Castell.  Once dry I took some home made Olive Glimmer Mist and lightly sprayed it over my design and once this dried I took  my Picket Fence (White) Distress Stain and blotted it randomly around the design so that it covered up some of the design as well as the blank space.  This toned down and softened the starkness of the the white background of the Paisley Cardstock.  I then stuck this paper on to my canvas and distressed the edges with some black/red ink.

I waited for this to dry and I then again randomly dotted all over the top 2/3 of the Design with the Picket Fence Distress Stain, to resemble falling snow flakes.  To the centre of some of these I added some Pearl Dew Drops which are also from the Robin's Nest.

To the bottom of the canvas I took the Red Velvet ribbon from the Robin's Nest Collection and wrapped this around the canvas.  I then added my bird which I cut from Red Felt using one of my dies, his eye is a small dew drop.  I had some old Christmas Decorations that were coming apart so I used the leaves to make it look like the bird is in the tree and a few random fibres in my stash to create a nest with a bit of shaping with my scissors.

I die cut my flower from red cardstock  adding some Red Dew Drops from the Christmas Collection to its center  for a further touch of Christmas I then buffed the flower and the edges of my canvas with Gold Viva Decor Inka Gold.

The Word Believe is simply cut from the Robin's Nest Black Believe Ribbon layered on a piece of red cardstock!

And there you have it,  a very unique home decor piece that can be hung on the wall, or placed on a stand or easel.

Thanks so much for looking at my project today and be sure to check out the wonderful selection of products suitable for Card Making, Scrapbooking and Mixed Media Projects at the Robin's Nest.

31 Day Card Challenge - Day 3 & Day 4

Good Afternoon!  I am back with my latest two card makes for the 31 Day Card Challenge I am participating in.

The first five day challenges are all Color Challenges.

Day 3 - Is to Use Primary Colors

For this one, I scrambled through my paper scraps finding some with the colors I required, and cut them into pieces and randomly stuck them down a piece thin white cardstock which I then ran through the Big Shot with one of my bird dies for a quick CAS Card.  The Sentiment is from the Unity Stamp Co stamped in SU Pacific Point Ink.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:-

Day 4 - Use the Colors of Fallen Leaves

This card uses some old Autumn Themed Papers from Stamping Up to capture the required color combo, which includes none other than some falling autumn leaves.  The stamped image is from one of the Unity Stamp Co KOTM from 2011 and I have added 3 Autumn Toned Dew Drops from the Robin's Nest.

I have a few busy days of blog posts coming up between Friday - Sunday for all my Design Team Commitments so my next 31 Day Card Challenge Post may not be until early next week.  Have a great rest of your day!

Sponged Color & Scallops Swap Card

Good Morning and a Big Hello to my new followers this week!  This week so far has seen me creating some cards which are overdue for a swap.  I had to create a card which included scallops, so I tried out a new SVG cutting file on my Sizzix Eclips.  The file is from the Cutting Cafe and part of a Shaped Card Collection.

The front is actually rectangular whilst the back overlaps bigger than the front with a scallop edge.

I have initially lightly sponged three colors across my front panel.  Those colors being Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Marina Mist all from Stamping up.  I then took my main image and sentiment and using Versamark stamped them and then taking some clear embossing powder embossed them.  The light sponged color showing through.

Again using my three chosen colors I added more depth of color to my background, blending the Old Olive across both of the other colors.  Around the edges I distressed with Tattered Rose and Aged Mahogany Distress Ink.

To finish I took the Sizzix/Stampin' Up! Embosslits Beautiful Wings and die cut/embossed 3 butterflies out of a brown patterned paper scrap and added some green bling to the flowers of the stamped image and some Old Olive Ribbon to the bottom of the card.

I am entering this card into the following challenges.

Stamping for the Weekend - #18 Feeling Floral
Paper Crafting Journey - My Sentiment Exactly
Charisma Cards - #37 Things with Wings
Cute Card Thursday - #235 A Different Shape
Paper Playtime - #84 Punches + A Sentiment

My Heart Pieces - Anything Goes

Good Morning and a big hello to all my new followers.  I have loved reading your lovely comments left for me this week, I do so appreciate them.  I am hoping to repay some visits over this coming weekend as I've been a bit slack the past few days as I have been trying to get ahead on some DT projects in the middle of having a big tidy up of my craft room and attempting to move it back into the office.

Yesterday a new challenge kicked off over at My Heart Pieces Digitals Challenge Blog.  Anything Goes!

I've been in Autumn Card Mode this week, so while having all my warm toned papers out I decided to go with the adorable image called Celebrating Autumn and create this card!  I have colored my image with my Tria Markers, the papers are from Stampin' Up! (retired) and the Sentiment for Unity Stamp Co.

I must say I have never seen anyone with a pumpkin on their head and Halloween and fall aren't really celebrated here to a great extent but I have seen them do this with a watermelon in the warmer months which are what we are heading into now.

Anyway I'd best be off have lots more to do.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful Friday!

PTT#81 Garden Delights

With spring just around the corner here in Australia this weeks challenge at Party Time Tuesdays I thought was very fitting as we anticipate the delights and surprises that will soon start to appear in our garden here at home.

We want to see lots of flowers and all your garden themes on your cards and projects this week.  The rest of the DT got to play with some delightful silhouettes from Paper Make Up Stamps whilst my card is using the Wags and Whiskers Iris Fairy Digi which was provided by Stamp and Create who are also one of our sponsors this week.

I have colored in the image using my Tria Markers, and used my Spellbinders Carnation Dies and Sullivan's Picket Fence Die in line with the garden theme also.  I was inspired to use the polka dot paper to match the mushroom in the image.  The blue background strip has been embossed with the Endless Drifting Embossing Folder by Couture Creations.  It is also garden themed with flowers, flourishes and butterflies.

I urge you to pop over and take a look at the other DT's silhouette creations.  You will not be disappointed as they are all stunning.  And I am sure they will inspire you to play along with our challenge this week.  I hope so anyway.

This week we have four wonderful sponsors and four fabulous prizes for four lucky winners.  As they say you have to be in it to win it, so what are you waiting for.
